Curaçao government continues with NOW and TBZO wage subsidy

Main news | By Correspondent September 3, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao government continues with an adapted form of the NOW wage subsidy and the Temporary Assistance Self-employed Entrepreneurs (TBZO). Applications can also be submitted for July and August.

At the beginning of August, it was announced in a press conference that the Fixed Charges Allowance (TVL) would be discontinued. This decision was taken on the advice of the Ministry of Economic Development (MEO).

Interim Director of Stichting Accountantsbureau Ryan Isenia explained that some of the entrepreneurs have abused the possibilities of the wage subsidy. Some also did not follow the rules.

The government has decided to continue with the subsidy with a modified form. The NOW is a scheme to cover the salary costs for staff in times of crisis and the TBZO is an allowance for the self-employed. Payment of applications from July and August will be made retroactively in September.

Now that the second part of the sixth tranche of liquidity support from the Netherlands is being transferred, the government has more financial space.
