WILLIAMSPORT, WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao baseball players defeated Nicaragua 7-2 at the Little League World Series in Williamsport yesterday. Man of the match was again Davey-Jay Rijke. August 17, Nicaragua was also defeated, then 2-0 by a strong pitching Rijke.
Yesterday, he had three hits, had two runs and a run batted in. On the hill, Rich was unstoppable. He stood there for a complete game, striking out his last batter after reaching the count and finishing with 88 pitches. Rijke struck out fifteen batters without a walk. Curaçao took a total of seven hits off four of Nicaragua.
“I am very emotional now,” said Zaino Everett, manager of Curaçao. “Davey-jay, I just believe in him. The lads from Latin America are a good team, that's why Davey-Jay was there. He just has to throw strikes.”
With the loss, Nicaragua is eliminated from the Little League World Series. Curaçao will play an elimination game against Mexico today at 3 PM. The winner then takes on Taiwan.
