WILLEMSTAD — Seventeen-year-old Curaçao baseball talent Sherrintley Da Costa Gomez Jr. has signed his first professional contract with the Atlanta Braves, his family announced in a press release.
The signing took place in the presence of his parents and scout Orlando Covo, marking an important milestone in the young player’s development.

Gomez Jr. began playing baseball at the age of four with the Groot Kwartier team and joined the Sta. Maria team at age six. Throughout his youth career, he was selected for every representative team of the Liga Pabou Little League, highlighting his consistent performance and early promise.
In November 2024, Gomez Jr. traveled to the Dominican Republic to participate in a tournament and tryout, where scout Orlando Covo first expressed interest in him. Several months later, that interest resulted in a formal offer from the Atlanta Braves, culminating in this week’s signing.
According to the family, Gomez Jr. will soon depart for the Dominican Republic to begin his training program within the Braves organization, taking his first steps toward a professional career in Major League Baseball.
The signing adds to the growing list of Curaçao-born players entering professional baseball and underscores the island’s continued reputation as a strong breeding ground for international baseball talent.
