Curaçao Reinstates Senior Representation in Washington, D.C.

Main news | By Press release January 6, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – The Government of Curaçao has decided, in line with a Cabinet resolution, to reinstate a senior representation for Curaçao at the Dutch Embassy in Washington, D.C. The decision comes amid rapidly evolving geopolitical developments and Curaçao’s strategic interests in the areas of the economy, tourism, justice, and security, which together have made it necessary to prioritize the reappointment of a high-level representative in the United States.

Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas, who also serves as Minister of General Affairs, announced the appointment of Jérôme Beeldsnijder as Plenipotentiary Minister of Curaçao at the Dutch Embassy in Washington, D.C..

Beeldsnijder was born in Suriname and grew up in Tera Kòrá, Curaçao. After completing his secondary education on the island, he continued his studies at the Royal Military Academy in the Netherlands. He subsequently built an extensive career as a professional officer and multi-deployment veteran, serving on several long-term missions in, among other places, the former Yugoslavia, Iraq, and Afghanistan. During these missions, he was involved in special operations and worked closely with international intelligence services.

In addition, Beeldsnijder previously served as Director of the National Security Services on both Sint Maarten and Curaçao. He is widely regarded as having strong expertise in managing unpredictable and complex situations, navigating international decision-making processes, and building and maintaining high-level strategic networks.

According to the government, his broad international, regional, inter-island, and local network will be deployed to safeguard and advance Curaçao’s national interests. In his new role in Washington, Beeldsnijder will focus on strengthening and deepening Curaçao’s strategic relationships within the Kingdom of the Netherlands and with key international partners, particularly in the fields of security, geopolitics, justice, economic cooperation, and international positioning.

The government stated that his in-depth knowledge of international security issues, geopolitical dynamics, and intergovernmental cooperation—combined with his operational experience and strong connections within defense and security circles—closely aligns with Curaçao’s current and future interests in the region.

Beeldsnijder will officially assume his duties in Washington, D.C. on February 1. In the meantime, Mitchell Boyd will serve as acting director of the Curaçao Security Service.

On behalf of the government and the people of Curaçao, Prime Minister Pisas wished Jérôme Beeldsnijder every success in his new mission representing the country abroad.
