WILLEMSTAD, THE HAGUE - Defense is deploying additional military personnel to support the Coast Guard in the Caribbean with coastal surveillance. The military is conducting additional coastal observations.
The extra effort is necessary, according to Defense, to identify possible landings with undocumented Venezuelans in time. The support is provided by army soldiers of the Company in the West as well as the Curaçao militia.
Specialized
The Compagnie in the West specializes in both mobile observations (where they move on foot or with vehicles), and "static" observations where they have concealed specific areas of interest under observation.
Supporting the civil authorities is one of the three main tasks of Defense in the Caribbean. This is done in various ways, from emergency assistance during hurricanes to support the police or Coast Guard.
