THE HAGUE - Member of the Dutch Parliament for the D66 faction, Antje Diertens wants to know whether all Venezuelans who were sent back to Venezuela by charter flight last week voluntarily opted for that option.
"To what extent have these people (under pressure) signed a voluntary departure statement in Dutch," the MP asks for her faction in parliament. She also wants to know whether the Venezuelans have been made aware of their right to legal assistance or the right to request protection under Article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights.
The plane that flew the seventeen to Caracas was used by the Curaçao government. The government received help in this from the Venezuelan consulate in Willemstad, which is under the authority of the president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, not recognized by the Netherlands.
The MP's questions also concern the seventeen Venezuelans who had escaped from the barracks of the SDKK prison in November, where aliens, as well as refugees, are normally locked up.
Diertens wants to know whether Defense was involved in the search for the escaped Venezuelans.
Curfew
The MP also wants to know whether Venezuelans have also been arrested and taken away handcuffed under the curfew that applies in Curaçao because of COVID-19.
