Defense and Foreign Affairs working on Caribbean security policy

Main news | By Correspondent June 25, 2021

THE HAGUE - The Ministries of Defense and Foreign Affairs are working on a specific security policy for the Caribbean region. The Dutch ministers involved Bijleveld and Kaag reported this to the Second Chamber of the Dutch Parliament today in their answer to questions about a report from the Advisory International Affairs on Security and the rule of law in the Caribbean.

“This security policy reflects on current and future threats and the way in which Defense is currently and, in the future, fulfilling its three main tasks. The formulation of the security policy will be finalized in the third quarter of 2021.”

Building on this defense policy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs intends to develop an integrated regional security strategy that considers threats from the region in their context and in this way be able to make an integral assessment of how and when to use the right channels (diplomatic, defense and judicial, police and deployment in the field of development and humanitarian aid).
