WILLEMSTAD - The Christian Pastors Association (APK) disagrees with the same-sex marriage verdict. The association speaks of a lack of respect for local norms and values. State Secretary for Kingdom Relations Alexandra van Huffelen believes that Curaçao is acting unlawfully in opposing gay marriage. APK says it does not agree with those findings.
The Dutch House of Representatives has referred the proposal to introduce same-sex marriage in Curaçao to the Supreme Court. This was also wrong according to APK. Saïd Flores, chairman of the organization, speaks of Dutch immorality by forcing a subject on Curaçao that does not belong in the community. “The homosexual rights movement is in direct opposition to God's order in creation,” said Flores.
Recently, the cruise ship 'Harmony of the Seas' arrived in Curacao, with 4500 LGBTQ people on it. Curaçao was then labeled as a 'gay-friendly island', something that APK deeply regrets.
The judgment of the Joint Court of Justice is in favor of same-sex marriage, which means that partners of the same sex can marry each other in Curacao and Aruba. The Curaçao government is appealing this verdict.
