WILLEMSTAD - In recent days, no new infections have been added to the total active cases in Curaçao. Epidemiologist Dr. Izzy Gerstenbluth from the Epidemiology department calls this 'very encouraging'. The number of active infections has decreased to 33.
Yet Gerstenbluth is not only optimistic. "The numbers remain low and that is very encouraging. But Curaçao is not and will not become corona free. The virus is circulating in the world and people come and go," said Gerstenbluth.
"Moreover, it is still the case that most people who are infected have hardly any complaints and therefore do not test," explains the epidemiologist.
Nevertheless, the number of tests is high, Gerstenbluth says. "That's because those who leave for the country they are going to have to have a test." In recent days, an average of around 800 people a day were tested.
In addition, he indicates that those who come in and have not taken a PCR test are tested at the airport. Gerstenbluth: "People who have to take an antigen test on the third day are also included in the number of tests."
