Dutch government’s response to Amnesty report on Venezuelans delayed

THE HAGUE - A response to the report 'Still not safe, Venezuelans do not receive protection in Curaçao' by Amnesty International is still a while yet. Undersecretary of Kingdom Relations Raymond Knops reported this in a letter to the Second Chamber of the Dutch Parliament today.

With a letter on behalf of the permanent committee for Kingdom Relations on 10 November, parliament asked the Minister of Justice and Security and Knops for the response requested in the adopted Koekkoek motion to the report 'Still not safe, Venezuelans do not receive protection in Curaçao' by Amnesty International to the Chamber before the Justice & Security budget.

The Koekkoek motion was adopted by the Second Chamber on 26 October 2021 and requested the Dutch government, among other things, to send to the Chamber a written response to the findings from the report within two months, paying particular attention to the recommendations. Partly in view of the two-month period proposed in the motion, Knops says he left the judgment on the motion in question to the Members of Parliament during the Kingdom Relations budget discussion (dated 14 October 2021).

Knops informs the MPs that it is not feasible to send the relevant response to the Chamber before the Justice & Security budget debate. In line with the Koekkoek motion, the government will respond to Amnesty International's report as soon as possible and within the period of two months, i.e. before 17 December 2021, Knops said.
