Main news | By Correspondent July 8, 2022

THE HAGUE - The Dutch House of Representatives wants to talk to the islands about the future of the Kingdom. The MPs has called on the Rutte government by motion to organize a Kingdom conference in 2023.

The motion was submitted by Jorien Wuite of D66 and Lammert van Raan of the Party for the Animals. The motion was adopted today. Only the PVV, Ja21 and Forum for Democracy voted against.

As far as the petitioners are concerned, the Kingdom Conference should be about the Charter, Union law in relation to the Kingdom, human rights, climate change, economic reinforcement and regional/international cooperation.

The motion is supported in the House, among other things, because of the failure of the Caribbean Body for Reform and Development (COHO). The Netherlands is very disappointed that the islands want the money from the corona support, but reject the legal basis for the reform program.
