THE HAGUE - Dutch political party GroenLinks believes that the Isla refinery on Curacao should be closed to make way for housing, tourism, and sustainable economic development. This can be read in the presented draft election program “Time for new realism” where the emphasis is on combating climate change, racism, and social inequality.

“We support Curacao in closing and cleaning the Isla refinery,” says GroenLinks. The Caribbean Netherlands will provide its own energy and will be a pioneer in the Caribbean. The party also believes that there should be a social minimum for Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba that provides for a decent life. On the BES islands, access to basic necessities, such as medical care, drinking water and electricity, must be guaranteed. Dutch Caribbean people who settle in the European Netherlands at a later age and are faced with a so-called state pension gap, GroenLinks wants to supplement their income.

Finally, the party advocates investing in the navy, "which we also use to protect the Caribbean part of our Kingdom." GroenLinks will announce the provisional list of candidates on 9 November. Then it will become clear whether spokesman for Kingdom Relations Nevin Ozutok has a chance of a second term.
