WILLEMSTAD, PORT AU PRINCE - Haiti was hit by an earthquake measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale this morning around 8:30 am. Shortly afterwards, an aftershock with a magnitude of 5.2 was measured.
The earthquake struck about 12.1 km northeast of Saint-Louis du Sud. According to the latest reports, there is a lot of damage, just like in 2010. At the moment it has been confirmed that 29 people have already been killed, but this number is expected to increase in the coming hours/days.
The Curaçao Meteorological Service (MDC) issued a special report this morning about the earthquake. "An earthquake has occurred but has no chance to generate a tsunami for Curaçao," said MDC.
A special notice is issued for weather phenomena that are unusual, cause general public concern and cannot be adequately described in the regular forecast.
