Eduard Braam withdraws as candidate minister

WILLEMSTAD - Eduard Braam withdraws as candidate minister. Braam does not think it is worth persisting in the position because of the social unrest surrounding his possible ministerial position.

"Too much public discussion causes unrest. As a country, we now need all the peace and quiet to get out of the crisis and rebuild confidence," says the Member of Parliament for the MFK party.

Braam has recently been discredited because of his conviction for a sexual offence. Braam had a secret meeting 20 years ago with an ex-patient who was a minor. He was convicted but did not have to serve a prison sentencr.

After it became known that Braam was a candidate minister, the discussion about whether the parliamentarian could be a minister broke out.

"Our country is bigger than Eduard Braam and if my withdrawal can bring some peace and tranquility, it is good for me," said Braam in a statement last night from Colombia.

Braam confirms that he will remain as a Member of Parliament and that he will strengthen and guide the faction as an 'older' and experienced politician.
