Electricity and water prices slightly down, petrol prices remain almost the same

Main news | By Correspondent August 31, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - The rate for gasoline in Curaçao remains virtually the same. The petrol price of 2.28 guilders per liter has remained virtually unchanged. From Tuesday 31 August, the price for a liter of diesel will fall from 1.70 guilders to 1.65 guilders.

The use of electricity and water will be slightly cheaper from Wednesday 1 September. Electricity is about 0.02 cents cheaper per kilowatt hour and for water you pay about 0.80 cents less per cubic meter. The decrease in electricity and water rates is the result of slightly higher fuel and electricity costs for production and a substantially lower correction factor for July 2021.

The Bureau Telecommunication & Post (BT&P), which is the regulator advises the Council of Ministers (RvM) on the new rates. Only after the RvM approves the proposal, does the Minister of Economic Development, who is also responsible for energy matters, determine the rates. The approval took a little longer than usual this month.
