WILLEMSTAD - Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath just announced that the curfew will be once again from 10 pm until 4:30 am. The emergency regulation has also been extended by 90 days. The Premier also announced that it is clear that the British variant of the COVID-19 virus has spread throughout the island.

Rhuggenaath indicated that it has become clear that the new variant is spreading more quickly and therefore measures must be taken again. It is better to take immediate action instead of waiting and the entire economy to come to a standstill.

The prime minister reflects on the measures that everyone must continue to observe. Keep a distance of 2 meters from each other. The facemasks must also continue to be worn in public spaces.

Restaurants will have to close at 9 pm due to the new curfew. Truki di pan (BBQ stands) may open from 4 o'clock until 9 pm.

The government will soon be contacting the Supreme Electoral Council (SEC) to ensure that the elections can continue as usual.

Rhuggenaarh emphasizes that the country is still in a crisis. “The balance of the measures is monitored. The vaccination program is going well, the figures arere good, but we still have to be careful,” said the Premier.

Events have taken place that Rhuggenaath was also not happy about. Still, many people have adhered to the measures. A general precaution is now being taken and it is necessary. We are in control of our behavior and that is where it should start, according to Rhuggenaath. There is constant consultation with the restaurant sector. There is also constant consultation with the nightlife (farandula). If we continue to agglomerate at all kinds of entertainment venues, the infections will continue, says the Prime Minister.

According to Rhuggenaath, a first measure has now been taken to prevent spread. More measures will be announced in the coming days. He says that Lei seku (no alcohol) has also been considered, but he hopes it will not be necessary. The coming days will continue to monitor the situation, also specifically the elections.
