WILLEMSTAD - Curaçao’s leading epidemiologist Dr. Izzy Gerstenbluth is seriously concerned about the spread of the corona virus during the elections. He said that during a press conference. "I fear a super spread event," said Gerstenbluth.

The epidemiologist thinks the March 19 elections can continue but is concerned. "Discussions will soon be held with political leaders and clear agreements will be made so that political groups also adhere to the measures to prevent the spread of the virus," said Gerstenbluth.

“We must do everything we can to prevent the elections from becoming a 'super spread event'. We do not want to limit the democratic rights of the population, but everyone must cooperate by abiding by the rules,” says Gerstenbluth.

The government announced in their recent press conference that the curfew will be from 10 pm until 4:30 am. According to Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath, the contamination figures have risen so much in recent days that the measures need to be tightened, even with the elections just around the corner.
