Four COVID patients Aruba returned to Curaçao

Main news | By Correspondent April 23, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - The first four Curaçao patients who were admitted to the Horacio Oduber Hospital will fly back to Curaçao today.

The hospital in Curaçao was full at the beginning of April and there was no more room in the intensive care unit. Therefore nine patients were flown to Aruba. By scaling down the regular care, there was room in the Aruban hospital for Covid patients from Curaçao. The first patients have now recovered sufficiently so that they can return to the island.

Minister Steven Croes was in Aruba last week for a private visit and also visited the hospital. According to the minister, everything is well organized in the Covid department. "I spoke to two Covid patients who told me extensively that the (covid) care is excellent," said Croes.

The outgoing minister also spoke with the Board of Directors, which said he was pleased with a visit by a minister from Curaçao. "Especially considering that they had to stop almost all regular admissions in order to receive our patients, they appreciated my visit," said Croes.

The patients who are returning today will each fly with an oxygen tank on the plane to Curaçao.
