Gambling sector Curaçao wants to stop publication Groene Amsterdammer and VPRO

WILLEMSTAD, AMSTERDAM – Master licensee Cyberluck wants to stop an upcomming publication and broadcast about the gambling sector in Curaçao by the Groene Amsterdammer and the VPRO-Human. A lawsuit has been filed today. Although Cyberluck has not yet seen the publication, it believes that it is in advance incorrect reporting.

Together with the VPRO program Argos, the Investico foundation is investigating abuses withing the gambling sector in Curaçao. They approached Cyberluck in the context of adversarial procedure with various questions about Cyberluck's role on the island.

Investico published on its own website and in the weekly magazine De Groene Amsterdammer. The VPRO program Argos devotes one or more broadcasts to the subject. It is not yet known when the publications will become public, or the broadcast is planned.

Cyberluck fears on the basis of the question presented that these parties would argue against the truth or allude to the fact that the gambling company wants to silence a well-known critic and her lawyer by constantly filing lawsuits against them to litigate them.

In addition, as a master licensee, the gambling company does not want to be criticized for its alleged illegal practices of issuing so-called sub-licenses to about 1800 gambling sites that, because of this construction, evade the supervision of the Curaçao government and in turn are not always reliable when paying out players, apart from the fact that in a number of cases they focus on the Netherlands without the necessary permits.

The Curaçao government has long said that this situation is undesirable, but is doing little about it. Cyberluck wants the Groene Amsterdammer and VPRO-Human not raise this issue with Investico in their programs and publications, on pain of penalty of up to 250,000 euros and rectification.
