WILLEMSTAD - On Sunday, the number of active corona infections rose to over four hundred on Curaçao. 33 new infections were registered for today, five people have recovered. Eight people are in hospital, three of which are in intensive care. There are now 410 infections. In addition, many employees in the hospital (CMC) are infected. This has consequences for regular healthcare.

Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath said in an added press conference today: "Those are two important indicators that the government is using to possibly take new measures." According to Rhuggenaath, the number of infections has gotten out of hand.

That is why from Monday, November 16, the following measures apply for the next three weeks:

-Evening clock from 21:00 to 04:30.

-All shops and restaurants must close at 8 pm.

-The wearing of a face mask is mandatory for everyone over 18 years old in supermarkets, hospitals, hardware stores, bookstores, on public transport, at funerals, hairdressers, pharmacists and other stores.

-The Ministry of Social Affairs, Labor and Welfare (SOAW) will pay more attention to 'workplace safety' at companies. Not only in contact with customers, but especially also between colleagues, more attention should be paid to keeping a social distance and wearing face masks.

-Public transport is allowed to operate until 9 p.m.

-Groups of more than 4 persons are not allowed, not even on the beach.

-Face masks are not required during classes at school, including for teachers while teaching. It will be compulsory during practical lessons. Parents who visit the school (for example for consultation with teachers) must wear a face mask.

In addition, Rhuggenaath appealed to everyone to stay at home as much as possible. "If there is no reason to go outside. Stay at home! "Employers are asked to let employees work from home if possible. Everyone is also called upon to protect the elderly. "Do everything you can to make sure they don't get infected," said Rhuggenaath.

Curaçao will remain open to tourists for the time being. People from low-risk areas must submit a positive PCR test, people from risk countries must be quarantined for fourteen days.
