WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao government has started the screening process for a candidate to lead the Ministry of Health, Environment and Nature (GMN). Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas (MFK) confirmed this on Wednesday. The prime minister declined to disclose the identity of the candidate at this stage.
Following the departure of Javier Silvania on October 15, the portfolios of GMN and Finance were temporarily redistributed within the cabinet. Prime Minister Pisas assumed responsibility for GMN, while Charles Cooper (MFK) took over the Finance portfolio, which he continues to combine with his existing responsibilities for Traffic, Transport and Spatial Planning.
According to Pisas, this interim arrangement is based on internal agreements within the MFK party and will remain in place pending the completion of the ongoing investigation into Silvania’s conduct. He emphasized that no permanent decisions will be made before that process is concluded.
Since Silvania’s resignation, several names have circulated as possible successors, including former Curaçao Parliament member Tyron Boekhoudt. The prime minister declined to comment on specific candidates, stressing that the screening process must first be finalized. Pisas also noted that within MFK there is consideration that, should Silvania be cleared of wrongdoing, he could return to his post as minister.
