"High expectations of 10-10-10 have not been met"

Main news | By Correspondent October 9, 2020

THE HAGUE, WILLEMSTAD - Ten years after 10-10-10, we can conclude that the high expectations that were ten years ago in the Kingdom have been far from being met. Many people had hope for a better future, but it did not materialize. This is according to Undersecretary Raymond Knops of Kingdom Relations today. According to Knops, the Netherlands - "with the wisdom of today" - should have cooperated more with the new countries immediately after 10-10-10 and should have been less restrained.

Knops states that it is easy to judge something that has already happened. But he does hope that the poor start of the autonomous countries has resulted in a joint effort to improve the living conditions of the islands. The Netherlands has laid down conditions for a new corona loan for this, the undersecretary emphasized. "Now we have no fear of working together. Because we know it is better for the people."
