Increase in 'license fee' from January

Main news | By Correspondent December 22, 2020

WILLEMSTAD - On Curacao the license fee for international payments will be increased at the beginning of January next year.

The measure affects all international payments. Buying goods abroad and depositing money in a foreign account will become more expensive.

With the increase Curacao wants to pay back the many millions that the Central Bank of Curacao and Sint Maarten has invested in the Giro Bank since 2013. The bank has been under the supervision of the Central Bank since that year.

According to the Minister of Finance Kenneth Gijsbertha, the increase in the 'license fee' is an internationally common instrument of the government to generate more income.
