WILLEMSTAD - The input of the trust sector in Curaçao is essential in the design of the new gambling law on the island. That is according to Minister of Finance Javier Silvania.
The trust offices have been invited to a meeting of the ministry on Friday 12 August. The modernization of the legislation regarding games of chance will then be discussed. In addition, the Curaçao Gaming Authority (CGA) is also established. The establishment of a new supervisor is part of the National Ordinance on Games of Chance (LOK).
The Curaçao Gaming Control Board is currently still overseeing the sector. However, the most important supervisory tasks are left to the sector itself. A limited number of master licensees grant sublicenses and are responsible for oversight.
The first task of the CGA will be the implementation of the policy and regulation of online gambling. “One of the main goals is the proper involvement of representative stakeholders and that they are consulted before new policies, rules and guidelines are adopted,” the ministry said.
The introduction of the LOK is planned for December 2022.
