Island opens again on Tuesday; no more license plate of the day

Main news | By Correspondent May 8, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - During a short briefing today, Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath announced that the government is hosting a national conference on May 10, 11, 12 to talk about how Curaçao will continue after the measures are eased and also after so many people have been vaccinated. The government wants to relax the measures step by step. As said before, many people want to celebrate Mother's Day tomorrow. Unfortunately, that is not possible. 7 more days are needed to evaluate.

There is light at the end of the tunnel. The so-called license plate of the day, the “plachi di dia” will disappear starting Tuesday 11 May. Plachi di dia will still be in effect tomorrow Sunday and Monday. Rhuggenaath calls on people to be patient. Next Sunday, the car-free Sunday will no longer apply.

All construction companies can get back to work starting Tuesday. People are allowed to go to the beach again in the morning from 4:30 pm until 9 am and at the end of the afternoon from 4:30 pm until 6 pm. Gyms and crossfit are also allowed to reopen.

Sports activities are again possible for children under 18 years old and only in the open air.

Hair salons, spas, and other businesses in that sector may also receive customers from Tuesday but this must be by appointment. The applicable measures remain in force, so distance and hygiene.

As mentioned, there will be a conference on how to deal with the virus on 11, 12 and 13 May. This is to prevent measures from having to be taken again in the future. Tourism, catering, education, family, sports, companies, and business owners are invited to this national assembly.
