Islands back in travel bubble

Main news | By Correspondent February 21, 2022

PCR test before departure from all other countries remains mandatory for everyone, vaccinated or not.

WILLEMSTAD - The CAS and BES islands together form a bubble again. Travelers do not have to be tested for infection with the corona virus before departure and after arrival in Curaçao. The bubble benefits apply to both vaccinated and unvaccinated people.

The travel restrictions of Curaçao with Aruba, Sint Maarten, Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Sint Maarten could be lifted, because the situation regarding Covid-19 is almost the same on the islands.

Epidemiologist Dr. Izzy Gerstenbluth explained this during a recent press conference. Now that the omicron variant has already circulated in Curaçao and the peak of infections has passed, many more people will almost certainly have been infected with the virus than has been shown by the figures.

Gerstenbluth: “People who had no complaints or who have not been tested. That is the reality.” If there is a traveler who has contracted Covid-19, this will not lead to a new outbreak of infections in the current situation.”

For the same reason, travelers from other countries, outside the bubble of CAS and BES, no longer have to have the antigen test taken on the third day after arrival in Curaçao. However, the PCR test before departure from abroad remains mandatory for everyone, vaccinated or not.
