Justice Ministry Moves to Speed Up Payments After Acknowledging Internal Delays

Main news | By Correspondent January 13, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – The Ministry of Justice has acknowledged that internal financial procedures within the government are causing delays in payments to companies and partner organizations. Minister of Justice Shalten Hato said agreements have now been made across the entire justice chain to address the issue and to achieve faster payments and tighter financial management in 2026.

During a strategic session held on January 9, the ministry met with management teams from all judicial organizations to discuss the impact of public finances on daily operations. The discussions focused on how financial processes affect both internal performance and cooperation with external partners.

A key issue identified was the time-consuming internal purchase order and approval procedures, which significantly slow down payments by the government. According to the ministry, this not only hampers the effective functioning of organizations within the justice chain, but also places strain on relationships with businesses and other partners that rely on timely payment.

Following the session, the ministry and the organizations involved agreed on concrete measures to streamline financial processes. These include improved coordination between departments, clearer procedures, and more clearly defined responsibilities. The shared objective is to reduce waiting times for payments as much as possible and to improve overall efficiency.

The Ministry of Justice says the changes are part of broader efforts to strengthen governance, improve operational continuity, and restore confidence among partners who work with the justice sector.
