Main news | By Correspondent July 15, 2022

THE HAGUE - The Kingdom delegation participating in the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) from 19 to 27 September will draw attention to the special position of small island states Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and thus the specific challenges that the Caribbean parts of the Kingdom face on a daily basis.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Wopke Hoekstra reports this in a letter to the Dutch House of Representatives about the efforts of the Kingdom during the UNGA week. “Due to their location, small scale, great economic dependence on tourism and imports, they are vulnerable to geopolitical developments and climate change,” said the minister.

“The Kingdom is committed to sustainable development, equality of opportunity and climate adaptation, to ensure that everyone can fully participate in society. This is also of great importance for the SIDS within the Kingdom. It is important that the specific challenges for island states remain on the agenda of the UN.”
