THE HAGUE - Today the Kingdom Council of Ministers has given the green light for liquidity support to Curacao in the amount of 76 million guilders. The question is whether that will be enough to meet the payment obligations until the turn of the year, but it will at least give the Pisas cabinet, with the bottom of the national treasury in sight, some air.
The loan of 76 million guilders (40 million dollars) was not made available earlier because Curacao had not met the conditions. Whether that is now the case is unclear. The list of decisions of the Kingdom Council of Ministers merely states that "the necessary steps have now been taken in implementation."
Sint Maarten was already granted the liquidity support required for the fourth quarter in September. Aruba is still not eligible for a subsequent loan because it has not met all the conditions.
