WILLEMSTAD - On Wednesday, June 6, the members of the 'Komishon Emblema Kòrsou' paid an introductory visit to the Governor of Curaçao, H.E. Lucille George Wout.
The task of the committee is to advise the Minister of General Affairs and the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport on the participation process that should lead to a new national symbol for the Country of Curaçao, to replace the current coat of arms.
The committee members were appointed by the Minister of General Affairs in March 2021. There are a total of 7 members, of which 5 members were appointed following a public recruitment and selection procedure. The secretary (Mrs Cherise Balentin) is also the secretary of the Council of Ministers and the chairman comes from the Directorate of Communication and Information.
The committee receives support and advice from expert civil servants, professional lawyers and the Intellectual Property Office.
The ultimate goal is to present the new national symbol to the public by October 10 this year. An emblem, chosen by the public after a pre-selection from entries of the public's creations. Entries can be sent between 20 July and 19 August via www.emblema.cw.
