THE HAGUE - Undersecretary Knops and Minister van Engelshoven do not reject the request of the General Pension Fund Curaçao (APC) and the Heritage-Plaza Consortium (HPC) to link the redevelopment of the area around the former Plaza hotel to the COHO trajectory.
However, it is then up to the Dutch Ministry of Traffic, Transport and Spatial Planning to take the initiative. Moreover, the development must demonstrably contribute to strengthening the Curacao economy, the ministers write to the APC/HPC.
Knops and Engelshoven say that the Cultural Heritage Agency can advise on the consultation with UNESCO in Paris. Since Willemstad is on the World Heritage List, urban development must meet strict conditions in order not to endanger the status of world heritage.
