Local Mindset Survey results soon to be released by Think To DO Institute

Main news | By Press release November 23, 2020

WILLEMSTAD - In Curaçao, we regularly hear broad statements such as: "our mindset needs to change", without any further elaboration or specification. What we know from Mindset research is that a growth mindset can help us take action. Taking action is the key to growth. It begins in our mind. With this idea in mind, The Think To DO Institute (T2DI) decided to conduct research related to “our mindset needing to change.” and the two mindsets that have a MAJOR impact on our ability to learn, grow, and achieve our goals, as individuals, groups, organizations and governments.

GROWTH MINDSET: The belief that we are in control of our skills. That they are things that can be developed and improved. That we have the capacity to learn and grow. Skills are built.  Abundance Thinking. “I Can” Mindset.

FIXED MINDSET: The belief that our skills are set, that we have what we have, and that we cannot change               them. That we don’t really have the capacity to change and learn. Skills are born. Scarcity Thinking.  Victim Mindset.

To understand and learn how to transform people’s mindsets, T2DI has conducted a nation-wide research on Mindset, and how Mindset influences the resiliency of our population. This research took place in the period of March 2020 up to and including November 2020.

Thanks to the active participation of more than a thousand citizens of Curaçao, T2DI has obtained a representative sample of the total population. The focus of the research is to assess the distribution of the different types of Mindsets in Curaçao, and how this affects self-reported life outcomes. Using various statistical techniques, the collected data will be analyzed in order to quantify the prevalence of concepts such as an abundant mindset versus a scarcity mindset, and a growth mindset versus a fixed mindset. In a matter of weeks, the findings of this large-scale research about the mindset of the population of Curaçao will be publicly available on the website of T2DI.

The findings of this research are important, because it will allow us to get a clear grasp of exactly what about our mindsets needs to change in order for us to become more resilient. Importantly, this clear grasp will be supported by quantitative data, generated by reliable and valid research tools.

A special thank you goes out to the sponsors of this research and those who have participated in the research.
