MAN-PIN Calls for Kingdom to Take Diplomatic Role in U.S.–Venezuela Conflict

Main news | By Correspondent January 9, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Political party Partido MAN has proposed that the Kingdom of the Netherlands, including Curaçao, play a more active diplomatic role in the escalating conflict between the United States and Venezuela, suggesting the island could serve as a neutral and peace-promoting actor in the region.

In a formal request, MAN-PIN asked for a meeting of the Commission on Kingdom Affairs, Interparliamentary Relations and International Affairs to discuss a joint position of the Curaçao Parliament on the crisis. The idea is rooted in Curaçao’s unique geographical and political position as part of the Kingdom, and its close proximity to Venezuela, where tensions with the U.S. have stirred regional anxiety.

The party’s proposal is based on Curaçao’s constitutional framework and the belief that, amid rising regional tensions, the islands should actively contribute to peace and stability. MAN-PIN officials argue that by offering so-called “good offices,” the Kingdom could act as a neutral third party — facilitating dialogue and reducing tensions without imposing solutions or acting as a mediator in the conflict itself.

This approach is consistent with earlier concerns voiced by members of MAN-PIN about the growing strain between the United States and Venezuela, particularly regarding military and airspace incidents that have affected the Caribbean region. Critics have said the islands could be drawn into broader geopolitical dynamics that carry economic and security risks.

MAN-PIN’s call comes as the wider Netherlands government and Kingdom partners have navigated their response to recent developments, with some Dutch lawmakers raising legal questions about U.S. military actions in Venezuela and urging adherence to international law.

By seeking a coordinated parliamentary position and emphasizing Curaçao’s potential role in promoting de-escalation, MAN-PIN aims to broaden the Kingdom’s diplomatic engagement — advocating for a stance that goes beyond monitoring and analysis to active, peace-oriented involvement in regional affairs.
