Meteo expects active hurricane season Curaçao

Main news | By Correspondent May 30, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - The hurricane season in Curaçao will be more intense this year than in previous years, the Meteorological Service Curaçao predicts. Meteo expects an average of fourteen storms, seven hurricanes and three intense hurricanes to pass in the Caribbean next year.

Hurricane season officially begins Wednesday and ends November 30. Curaçao is not located in the so-called 'hurricane belt', so has less chance of hurricanes than other countries in the Caribbean. However, Curaçao will have to deal with the impact of storms in these areas due to, among other things, the temperature of the sea water.

The Meteorological Service indicated that it will issue early warnings this year to limit the damage from the storms. “Various precautions can then be taken. This saves lives and property.”
