MFK requests emergency meeting in Curaçao Parliament over Venezuela developments

Main news | By Correspondent January 6, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – The MFK parliamentary group in the Curaçao Parliament has requested an emergency meeting of the College of Seniors in response to the recent developments in Venezuela.

The request follows the U.S. military operation carried out late last Friday night, during which Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife were taken into custody.

According to MFK faction leader David Seferina, the situation has led to heightened tensions both in the region and on Curaçao. In the immediate aftermath of the operation, a temporary airspace warning was issued, disrupting flights to and from the island.

The MFK faction is calling on Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas (MFK) to brief the Curaçao Parliament on the current state of affairs and the potential implications for Curaçao. The party has requested that this briefing take place behind closed doors and include representatives of the security services.

The College of Seniors, which coordinates parliamentary consultations on sensitive and urgent matters, is expected to convene in the near future to consider the request and determine the next steps.
