MFK wants respect from the Netherlands

Main news | By Correspondent March 26, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - Political party MFK wants to build a good relationship with the Netherlands. This is according to MFK chairman Sithree 'Cey' van Heydoorn. Yesterday, the winning party and PNP signed an agreement on the division of ministries in the second Pisas cabinet. It should not yet be called a coalition agreement, according to Van Heydoorn.

MFK of Gilmar "Pik" Pisas secured nine seats in the Parliament elections. 'National' (PNP), by Ruthmilda Larmomie-Cecilia won four seats.

The relationship between Curaçao and the Netherlands at the time of the Schotte cabinet from 2010 to 2012 was not the best, but Van Heydoorn denies this. "A relationship is good if there is mutual respect. We have that and we want the same from the Netherlands. We don't want a fight", the chairman indicated.

Both parties have chosen to distribute the ministerial posts first. "In the past a lot of preliminary work was done, but the distribution of ministerial posts ran into problems. Then all the preliminary work is for nothing," said Van Heydoorn. In addition, the parties want to involve potential ministers in advance in drawing up the government program.

Ministers will be announced shortly, but names won't be announced until they pass screening. "The names are already known within the parties," says Van Heydoorn. He also confirms that he is a candidate.

The agreement states that MFK supplies the Prime Minister and thus occupies the Ministry of General Affairs. Furthermore, Justice, Finance, Health, Environment and Nature (GMN), Traffic, Transport and Spatial Planning (VVRP) and Education, Science, Culture and Sports (OWCS) will go to MFK.

The Ministries of Administration, Planning and Services (BPD), Social Development, Labor and Employment (SOAW) and Economic Development go to PNP.

The Green Party also supplies the Vice President of Parliament. The President will be appointed by MFK ranks. The White Party further supplies the Minister Plenipotentiary and the Acting Minister Plenipotentiary. The minister plenipotentiary in Washington goes to PNP.
