WILLEMSTAD - The National Criminal Investigation Department (Landsrecherche) in Curaçao is investigating a preventive drug search carried out by the police at Marnix College (Cas Cora) earlier this week, in which all students were forced by officers to completely undress.

The case was brought to light by shocked parents who heard about the incident from their children. The officers involved, who according to the students behaved rather intimidating, have since been sent on leave. One of the teachers has also been suspended. The school has been closed since the incident. The investigation carried out by the Landsrecherche is led by a public prosecutor of the Public Prosecution Service.

As for the Member of the European Parliament Samiera Rafaela, there is only one appropriate punishment for the officers and that in dishonorable discharge, she tweeted: “Letting children bend down naked without concrete suspicions is simply violence and undermines their rights. A disgrace and we need to go to the bottom of this.”

The Landsrecherche is an independent investigating agency with a special task. It focuses on the investigation of crimes committed by government and semi-government officials. The National Criminal Investigation Department mainly operates in the field of criminal conduct that seriously affects the integrity of the administration of justice and the integrity of public administration.
