Main news | By Correspondent August 15, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - Negotiations between Aqualectra and Eagle Energy are still in full swing. Today Economy Minister Cijntje attended the meetings. In April, the two companies signed an outline agreement for the supply of liquefied natural gas. The utility company wants to use gas to generate electricity. This should lead to lower rates for consumers. Previously, Aqualectra had assumed that the negotiations would be completed by the middle of the year. That is not yet the case.

The Eagle Energy also visited Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas on August 11 at Fort Amsterdam. The U.S. Consul General Mr. Margareth Bond was also present.

During this meeting, the representatives of the company gave the prime minister a synopsis of the status of the project they want to start in Curaçao.

Eagle Energy is interested in promoting alternative energy for the community. According to the company this will be beneficial for the environment and for the people. The community will be able to benefit from sustainable energy which will help reduce the costs. This process will be more efficient, reliable and it will also create more jobs, says the company.

According to the government this will help the country and its economy to recuperate from the devastating impact that it has experienced throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Curaçao government also indicates that Eagle Energy wants to make a commitment with the community that would be beneficial for all.

Prime Minister Pisas says that he was happy with the information received and he told Eagle Energy that they have the support from the government for this project.
