New 2Bays Curaçao policy to boost KTK operations amid port activity revival

Main news | By Correspondent October 11, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - The newly implemented policy by 2Bays Curaçao, formerly known as RdK, is expected to bring significant benefits to Kompania di Tou Kòrsou (KTK) due to the anticipated increase in shipping activity at the Schottegat and Bullenbaai ports.

Since the closure of the refinery and the end of the contract with Pdvsa, KTK has seen a sharp decline in the number of vessels visiting Curaçao, resulting in staff reductions and a search for new markets abroad. However, with the partnership between KTK and 2Bays Curaçao, port activities are now expected to recover quickly.

Patrick Newton, the director of 2Bays Curaçao, emphasized the importance of close collaboration with KTK and other government companies for this revival. He predicts that the first tankers will arrive by the end of the year, which will create job opportunities not only for KTK but also for other shipping service providers.

"Further agreements with Oryx are crucial for KTK, so they can align their operational planning accordingly," Newton stressed. The increased demand for KTK's services might even lead to an expansion of its workforce.
