THE HAGUE - The new Dutch coalition government formed by D66, VVD and CDA has reaffirmed that the Kingdom of the Netherlands is “one Kingdom,” explicitly emphasizing equal cooperation with Curaçao, Aruba and Sint Maarten. According to the coalition agreement for the 2026–2030 period, the relationship with the Caribbean countries will focus on good governance, protection of human rights and the strengthening of the rule of law.
The agreement states that the Kingdom relationship extends far beyond Europe and offers economic and social opportunities on both sides of the Atlantic. The coalition underlines that cooperation must be based on equality rather than hierarchy, while at the same time addressing challenges such as poverty, governance capacity and corruption.
The Dutch government says it will support the Caribbean countries in strengthening their self-reliance and institutional capacity, while maintaining firm expectations regarding integrity, financial management and the fight against corruption.
