No Dutch loan for Curaçao for the time being

Main news | By Correspondent March 30, 2021

THE HAGUE, WILLEMSTAD - Curaçao cannot claim more loans from the Netherlands for the time being. Outgoing Undersecretary of Kingdom Relations Raymond Knops has informed the outgoing government in Curaçao about this.

The legislation for a 25 percent reduction in the terms of employment of ministers and members of Parliament had to be approved before January 1, 2021.

And the legislation regarding the Balkenende standard, so a salary that is not higher than the prime minister, for directors of government companies, has not yet been approved.

Both should be laid down in law and are conditions for Curaçao to receive liquidity support from the Netherlands. So Curaçao will not receive it for the time being.

In addition, the Financial Supervision Board (Cft) says that Curaçao would have sufficient resources for the second quarter of this year to make it on its own.
