WILLEMSTAD - Because there was no quorum at the parliament meeting on Thursday morning, the meeting was canceled. The topics discussed during the meeting were Social Housing Foundation (FKP) with VVRP minister Zita Jesus-Leito and endorsement of the credentials of Emmilou Capriles.
The required majority at the Parliamentary Assembly was not forthcoming this morning because the entire opposition did not show up. It became clear in advance that several opposition parties did not want to cooperate in approving Capriles' credentials.
This plays into the hands of the opposition as the coalition does not now have a majority in parliament. Capriles remains outside parliament due to the absence of a quorum. How long this situation will continue is unknown.
Capriles follows Jeser El Ayoubi who officially gave up his seat on Monday. Capriles was eleventh on the PAR candidate’s list in 2017.
