No support for COHO in current form

PHILIPSBURG - The members of the Dutch Senate and House of Representatives also believe that the COHO proposal should be amended. The Consensus Kingdom Act is not acceptable to any of the parliaments of the Kingdom. This is apparent from the Interparliamentary Council (Ipko) that took place on Sint Maarten until Friday last week.

The meeting concluded with the signing of an appointment list. For example, the countries have agreed that Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten will not have to submit their contribution to the Kingdom Act until 20 May. The deadline was first set for next Friday, May 13.

The delegations formulated six points for attention during the Ipko.

The free choice of countries for entering into mutual arrangements and the form to be chosen, especially since in principle it concerns autonomous country affairs.

The position and role of the Parliaments and the States General (Dutch Parliament) in the establishment of Consensus Kingdom Acts.

The difference in legal basis between Consensus Kingdom Acts and other Kingdom Acts and mutual arrangements.

Dialogue, mutual coordination, and an open and respectful relationship must be paramount in obtaining and maintaining consensus.

Determining the term referred to in Article 16 of the Charter for the Kingdom of the Netherlands for the issuing of a written report by the representative body of the country in which the regulation will apply.

The importance of mutual coordination and dialogue between representatives of the people before and during the formal treatment of the law in the States General.
