Opposition against, yet majority in favor of Dutch entity

WILLEMSTAD - Curaçao opposition parties are not happy with the agreement that the Curaçao government has reached with the Netherlands on the new entity that should manage the corona loans. But the chance that the Curaçao parliament will reject this is small: a coalition majority has already expressed its support.

Largest opposition party MFK (5 seats) is particularly dissatisfied with coalition party MAN, which came up with a motion in July against the consensus kingdom law in which the Dutch entity is regulated.

“So you see how they betray the people. Does MAN have a backbone?” Said Charles Cooper, calling for a fight against" the sale of our land".

"The ministers have succumbed to Dutch pressure, what are the parliamentarians doing" - Charles Cooper

He also refers to the part in Prime Minister Rhuggenaath's letter about the agreement, which he says shows that the Netherlands is still in charge. Contrary to what the Rhuggenaath government wants to have Curaçao believe.

Because if parliament rejects the reforms, Dutch support can be withdrawn, the letter states. "The ministers have succumbed to the Dutch pressure, now let's see what the parliamentarians are going to do."

Kòrsou di Nos Tur (2 seats) thinks that there is almost no difference between the original plan and what is now being presented. "It's a manipulative letter in which they try to water things down," says Menki Rojer. He maintains that the powers of parliament are being affected. “They write about investments, but which ones? There must be a plan for this, where is it and how much money is coming from the Netherlands? The only thing the letter states is that the Netherlands is invading our government.”

The opposition has 10 seats in parliament against 11 of the coalition parties. The MPs of the two coalition parties PAR (6 seats) and MAN (5 seats), have already indicated that they support their government. “Our autonomy has been saved”, says PAR faction leader Steven Walroud with satisfaction.
