Parliament presented two motions regarding management Central Bank

WILLEMSTAD - Parliament of Curaçao presented two motions regarding the Central Bank of Curaçao and St. Maarten (CBCS) and the Giro Bank. One motion was presented by the coalition and the other by the opposition parties.

The motion presented by the opposition urges the Minister of Finance of Curaçao Kenneth Gijsbertha and the Minister of Finance of St. Maarten to temporarily suspend the Board of Supervisors of the Central Bank. This in connection with an impartial investigation into the functioning of the board of directors of the Central Bank. The motion was rejected by 12 votes against and 5 in favor.

The second motion, presented by the coalition, urged the Minister of Finance to start an investigation into the dealings of the management of the bank. But at the same time, the coalition is asking the minister to reinforce the management with other professionals to reestablish the good image of the highest financial institution of the country.

The coalition also urged the minister to start an investigation into what caused the bank run on December 10, 2019 at Giro Bank. This is to prevent another bank run at other banks. This motion was adopted with 12 votes in favor and 5 against.
