WILLEMSTAD - The costs for travels for members of parliament have already exceeded four hundred thousand in the first six months of this year. That is a hundred thousand guilders more than the total budget for business trips in 2022. This was confirmed by the President of Parliament e Charetti America-Francisca of the MFK.
The President of Parliament does mention that the travel budget was reduced to 300,000 guilders during the corona pandemic. For 2023, the reserved amount will be increased again to 560,000 guilders, just as it was in 2019.
America-Francisca also indicates that the financial resources have not been handled carefully enough. For example, various committees have already given the green light for business trips for which financing has not yet been arranged. This happened recently, for example, at the medical cannabis conference in Colombia.
A delegation is currently attending a freezone conference in Jamaica and a new official trip is planned to Atlanta at the end of this month.
