Pisas: “Big plans to solve police shortages”

Main news | By Correspondent December 7, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - According to the spokesperson for the Police Corps, Imro Zwerwer, the shortage of police officers affects the organization. Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas acknowledges the problem and says major plans are underway to tackle the problem.

The scarcity within the force has been known for some time. Due to an accumulation of factors, several officers have dropped out. For example, several officers have been suspended. They are still being investigated by the Landsrecherche. In addition, several officers have been convicted and a group has retired or been declared unfit for work for a longer period. The failure of the motorcycle police is also a great loss for the corps, says the spokesman. The motorcycles have been out of use for some time because they are not road worthy.

According to Zwerwer, the police are suffering from the shortage of personnel. There are said to have been several talks with the government to recruit new staff and set up more classes. To date, however, nothing has happened with the plans.

The Prime Minister indicated in a response that a major plan is being worked on. The Prime Minister will release more information about this in the coming weeks.
