WILLEMSTAD - During a recent debate with parliament, Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas advised the MPs to request an emergency meeting about the NOW scheme. Then the ministers of the Ministry of Economic Development and Finance can provide a more detailed explanation about this arrangement.
Last Thursday the Prime Minister was in parliament together with Minister Dorothy Pietersz-Janga of Health, Environment and Nature (GMN). There they answered questions that Members of Parliament had asked a week earlier in a public meeting. Pisas then asked for two working days to formulate the answers. But on Thursday he could only discuss the Emergency Measure Bridging Employment (NOW) 'in broad terms'.
The Prime Minister's advice to Parliamentarians is therefore to request an emergency meeting with Ministers Javier Silvania of Finance and Ruthmilda Larmonie-Cecilia of Economic Development. They could go into more detail on the questions and come up with concrete figures.
Pisas points out once again that the conditions for entitlement to the wage subsidy via NOW are being revised. "We have to make sure that the money gets to those who are entitled to it," Pisas said. May this year was the last month that companies could submit an application for a form of subsidy via the support fund.
