WILLEMSTAD - The PNP party declares in a press release that they still believe in Ramon Chong as a potential candidate minister capable of reviving Curaçao’s economy. Despite a letter from former CBA Television employees to formateur Chester Peterson warning of the "cunning" Ramon Chong, who is candidate minister on behalf of Partido Nashonal di Pueblo (PNP), the party has decided to keep Chong's nomination.
In said letter, a group of former employees alleges that Chong left a string of debts with CBA Television and also refers to a previous conviction of Chong for corruption. Although the party sympathizes on Christian Democratic principles with any citizen who feels that injustice has taken place against him or her, PNP says in its press release that it believes that in this case there is “a deliberate attempt to prevent a possible appointment of Ramon Chong as minister of Economic Development”.
There is no basis for this, according to PNP. They party says that Mr. Chong has sought to save a distressed company that was already in serious trouble when it appeared on the scene and is now falling victim to a situation in which he himself had to sacrifice a lot.
The party rejects the attempt to sabotage a possible appointment of Mr. Chong and states that for the PNP, Mr. Chong remains without a doubt a good candidate for the next Minister of Economic Development, precisely because of his knowledge and capabilities already in the past have been proven to revive our now-stuck economy. “Don't forget how he reversed negative economic development and tourism in 2001.”
According to the party there have been several targeted attacks in recent days to disrupt the formation of a new government. This is regrettable, according to PNP. “Curaçao currently needs the best people to help the population out of the malaise.”
“The situation is not easy, but PNP and MFK are committed to governing the country with conviction, fortitude and confidence. That is why PNP has nominated candidates to the formateur who have the heart in the right place and have the capabilities to do the job well. Unfortunately, there are forces that will do everything they can to disrupt this. Mr. Chong has provided the formateur with all the facts in the case of CBA,” says PNP in their press release.
