Police unions reach agreement, work stoppage off the table

Main news | By Correspondent August 31, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - Police union NAPB and the Ministry of Justice have reached an agreement. This puts an end to the work stoppage that started on Monday.

More than 100 officers stopped working to meet during working hours. A list of thirteen points of concern was drawn up, which mainly concerned how the police apparatus handles the officers internally, including aftercare after incidents in which officers are injured.

The parties eventually found each other, after the threat of 'no work no pay' was removed. The police leadership withdrew the controversial measure for striking officers.

It has been agreed that in the event of work incidents, a special working group will be called upon to deal with work accidents. The case in which an officer was shot during work and has now been deemed unable to work will in any case be dealt with next month.

There will also be a special team at the Ministry of Justice that will deal with incident management in the workplace, but not only at the police but at all services and the Ministry of Justice itself.
